Riverboat Gambling

Week 3 of the college football season is fast approaching. We've said before that we don't advise anyone to put their hard-earned money down on a sporting event, so we're doing this for fun.

Vegas seems really unsure of their favorites this week, so the lines are pretty close for some games that would, at first glance, look like a blowout. Let's try our hand at it in the SEC and a few games outside the conference.

All Times Central

UAB at Tennessee (-34)- 11:30 am-
Bunkhouse picks: Tennessee 38-17

Why?: Tennessee is at home, but needs a lot of work after their lackluster performance at UCLA week 1, and the bye week didn't help to get adjusted to game speed.

#2 Georgia (-10) at South Carolina- 2:30 pm on CBS
Bunkhouse picks: Georgia 45-17

Why?: SC's defense is very bad while the offense is unsteady and turnover prone. Georgia will likely stick a fork in them early as it's the Dawg's first good testing all season. This game is typically close, so Vegas is worried about giving a big line to Georgia on the road.

Arkansas at #8 Texas (-23)- postponed to Sept. 27th
Bunkhouse picks: "Hit me again, Ike! And put some stank on it!"

Why?: Bobby Petrino for not having to play Texas this week.

#9 Auburn (-8) at Mississippi State- 6:00 pm on ESPN2
Bunkhouse picks: Auburn 35-7

Why?: There is some redemption to be had for last year's loss to the Bulldogs. The Tiger offense is efficient but capable of too many turnovers. The Bulldogs are just awful on both sides of the ball though.

Western Kentucky at #11 Alabama (-33)- 6:00 pm
Bunkhouse picks: Alabama 31-0

Why?: Alabama is an unknown quantity right now. Saban has them in the right direction, but the consistency they need to be great is just not there yet.

Middle Tennessee at Kentucky (-18.5)- 6:00 pm
Bunkhouse picks: Kentucky 28-10

Why?: Kentucky is good enough to beat MTSU, but he haven't seen them in action against a tough team yet.

Samford at Ole Miss (no line)- 6:00 pm
Bunkhouse picks: Mississippi 55-14

Why?: The Rebels have something good going with Jevan Sneed. Poor Samford can't keep up.

Rice at Vanderbilt (-9.5)- 6:00 pm
Bunkhouse picks: Vanderbilt 31-20

Why?: Rice has enough of an offense to give the commodores trouble. This game will prove a lot about Vandy's ability to win games they are supposed to win consistently.

#5 Ohio State at #1 USC (-7.5)- 7:00 pm on ABC
Bunkhouse picks: I don't care enough to speculate.

Why?: It's a media-made "game of the century" that effects absolutely nothing about which I care; and even if it is a good game it won't possibly live up to the summer and week long hype.

Have a great football weekend!
